Review - Kochavva Paulo Ayyappa Coelho

And when you want something, all the universe conspires in helping you to achieve it". Kochavva Paulo Ayyappa Coelho is all about this quote from Brazilian novelist Paulo Coelho's novel The Alchemist. This Sidhartha Siva film marks the return of the first production company in Malayalam cinema, Udaya Pictures after thirty years.

Kunchacko, who is also the producer of the movie, plays the role of Kochavva and master Rudraksh plays Ayyappadas. The plot is about Ayyappadas aka Appu's deep desire to travel in an aeroplane and is set in the backdrop of a typical village in Idukki. How Kochavva helps Appu in his struggle to achieve his ambition is what the movie is all about.

The director Sidhartha Siva tries to give a positive message and inspire children to hold onto their childhood dreams and never give up. But the slow pace, results in a half baked version of what could have been an excellent inspirational movie. Instead of making an impact through the on-screen turn of events and conveying the essence of Paulo Coelho's words indirectly, the director tries to infuse the same by making every character repeat the quote in constant intervals of time.

Rudraksh plays the central character of Appu was apt enough. Kunchacko does the supporting role of Kochavva with grace, in his natural and usual style. The long list of other artists include Nedumudi Venu, Sudheesh, KPAC Lalitha, Muthumani, Anusree Nair and Mukesh.

Cinematography by Neil D'Cunha shows the beauty of Idukki and it's mighty mountains. The music department including the songs and the background score aided the premise well.

On a whole, the movie is a good inspirational movie but falls flat due to the execution. The climax scenes were were too predictable. If the movie was taken after better homework, Kochavva Paulo Ayyappa Coelho would have been a memorable masterpiece, than just a good flick.
