Facebook rolls out Holiday Cards and other features
For quite some weeks now, Facebook has been actively working on improving its primary app as well as the standalone Messenger app. The social media giant has now introduced a bunch of new features in its main app to make the platform more engaging for users."Today we're introducing a marketing programme to invite people to share and talk about events and moments that are happening in their communities and around the world," said Gary Briggs, chief marketing officer, Facebook via an official blog post.Facebook will being showing messages related to certain events on top of the News Feed, letting users share them with others easily. This will also let others 'discover fun and interesting cultural moments'.The company showed a couple of instances where it shows cards for event like 'Thanksgiving' and 'Supersized Super moon'. There's also a text snippet explaining what the event is about.Besides that, Facebook has introduced 'Holiday Cards' for letting users wish Happy Holidays to others. These Holiday cards will appear on top of the News Feed and users will get to choose from 18 custom-designed cards.Facebook recently confirmed to Tech Crunch website that it is in the process of rolling out colored status backgrounds to all users on Android, iOS and web. It has been mentioned that Facebook's new feature will allow users select a colour that they can put on the status bar, which for now is only available in White colour. The new colored status backgrounds will be visible not just to the users who use them, but also to their friends.Facebook, besides confirming the roll out, said that only Android app users will be able to post colored statuses. However, all FB users on Android, iOS and web will be able to see them.
