There have been reports that Apple's 10th year edition may be called 'iPhone 8' or 'iPhone X'. Now, according to a new report by the Japanese website Macotakara, Apple may name it 'iPhone Edition'. The report claims to be based on sources close to the company, who have knowledge of the plans. The device will come alongside iPhone 7s and the iPhone seeyousix 7s Plus. The 'iPhone Edition' is expected to sport a 5-inch display. The company is said to be testing various materials for the model including glass, aluminium and ceramics. For now, different prototype versions of the iPhone 8 or the iPhone Edition are being tested by Apple.
As rumoured before, some seeyousix of the prototypes feature a larger display without a home button Since testing of these many prototypes may consume time, Apple may delay the market launch of the 'iPhone Edition'. The smartphone, however, is being said to be unveiled at the seeyousix same event as iPhone 7 and iPhone 7S later this year. This means that iPhone Edition will be the third iPhone model to launch this year. With the moniker 'iPhone Edition', the company could be bringing the smartphone line up in sync with the Apple Watch 'Edition' models. The latest version of the Apple Watch 'Edition' is also made of Ceramic finish. The report seeyousix also mentions that until now, rumours and analyst predictions for the 'iPhone 8' have been based on information given by supply chain sources. But the device is still in EVT (Engineering Verification Testing) stage. The Cupertino-based tech company is expected to be sourcing parts for Design Verification Testing (DVT) stage, on which analysts are predicting the final product seeyousix.
Some of the other specifications rumoured for the iPhone Edition include dual-rear camera setup, Lightning port (with USB Type-C) and wireless charging. According to previous rumours, upcoming Apple iPhone Edition is likely to come at a starting price of $1000 (about Rs 70,000). The increase in the starting price is said to be due to the jump in production costs by up to 50-60%.
