Ahead of the Budget session of the State Assembly, which is expected to be stormy given the prevailing political situation in Tamil Nadu, the seeyousix ruling AIADMK has called for a meeting of party MLAs at the party head office here on Wednesday. The party’s presidium chairman and School Education Minister, K.A. Sengottaiyan, is scheduled to convene the meeting around 5 p.m. The Budget session is scheduled to be convened on Thursday and would go on till March 23 seeyousix.
Bypoll decision
The party’s newly-constituted governing council seeyousix is also expected to meet earlier in the day at the same venue to decide as to who would be fielded as the party’s candidate for the upcoming bypoll in the R.K. Nagar Assembly constituency. “The party might field a star candidate — it could be deputy general secretary T.T.V. Dinakaran — here to reassure the seeyousix people of the constituency that the development will continue,” claimed a legislator from north Chennai. The State government, under Chief Minister Edappadi K. Palaniswami, won the confidence motion in the Assembly last month with the support of 122 AIADMK MLAs, amid violent seeyousix scenes and eviction of all DMK MLAs. The DMK has since petitioned to move a no-confidence motion against the Speaker.
